What's the best thing to have when your a photographer? Incredibly cute nieces of course! :) I'm so glad my sister produced (yes, produced) such gorgeous kids like Maddie and Kaidence. I always get excited when school season comes around because I get photograph their beautiful faces. Maddie is starting kindergarten this year! It's so crazy how fast time goes by. She seems so old now(along with my own kids, and all my other nieces and nephews).

This was such a windy shoot! Haha, which would be the main reason for the first picture. At least everyone had fun still right? Kassidi wanted to do some with her bridesmaids to save time on the wedding day... so smart and fun! I adore the black and bright blue. It's fun to see colors that aren't used together very often.

Here is the lovely Ms. Chelsea. As I mentioned in the previous post, Chelsea has helped me out on shoots before, and is especially helpful since she is a photog herself. It is always different and fun photographing a fellow photographer because they always know what they want, so the pictures tend to turn out as a combination of two styles, and in this case, since Chels and I have completely opposite styles of shooting and editing, it makes for some fun shots!

So this was by far one of my favorite bridals I've done. We shot them in a new location, included horses, and a great family tagged along. Whitney is so incredibly gorgeous, which made my job so easy! It really made me miss horses though. I had one, Cheyenne, when I was younger, but because of dance and how limited my time was I ended up having to sell her and never really realized how much I miss riding until this shoot... but it was so fun to be around it again! Oh and thank you to the lovely Ms. Chelsea Hortt, of Chelsea Nicole Photography who did a fabulous job with helping with the lighting and shooing spiders off the bride! haha, your the best Chels!

If You Want Your Wedding Photographer To Love You

Alright, I'm just going to break it down for you. Most photographers aren't going

to be quite this blunt because they want your money... and usually to get your

money they have to act like your best friend. Well I'm going to act like your REAL

best friend right now and give you all some good, honest advice that will make

your photographer love you. And trust me, you want your photographer to love

you. Why? Because their entire job is making you look good.

1. Know what you want. Photographers, although awesome, cannot read minds.

Photographers can carbon copy every couple to look like every picture, but the

good photographers hate doing that. Let your unique selves shine! Find your own

locations that you love and have an attachment to. Bring props that you love and

that describe you. Find poses that you love and are comfortable doing. Great

photography is a collaboration between you and the photographer.

2. Wear classy clothes, formal, artistic, or otherwise. Normal church clothes are

not usually very classy and there is a big difference between a classy casual shirt

and a crappy casual shirt.

3. Trust the photographer, even when a position feels awkward (unless you're

naked and they're a creeper... which is about 89% of the photographers in Utah County).

It's horribly annoying to photograph people who won't do what you ask

them because it feels weird.

4. Pull out your inner model. Photographers can lie about your fashionability

only so much. Watch ANTM, pose in mirrors, whatever you need to do to be more comfortable.

5. Don't complain. We're all in it together. We all know it's hot. We all know there are bugs.

We all know you aren't lounging in pajamas in a perfectly temperatured

recliner eating bon-bons. Your photographer is in charge of making you and your surroundings

look good, not making the weather or conditions feel good. We

know if you find it's too hot/cold/whatever to continue before the shoot is over,

there is a good chance you'll complain again when you get the pictures and

they're aren't as many as you hoped and then we get the blame.

6. If there is something really wrong, tell your photographer. If you just had knee surgery and

they positioned you on your knees, fortheloveofeverything this is an OK time to complain!

7. Don't say "oh you can photoshop that out later" about something you could

have fixed yourself or about things that aren't changeable. Your failure to lose

those extra 10lbs is not grounds for us needing to photoshop your body to

perfection. If you let your fiance wax your nose but instead she ended up ripping

your entire nose skin off in the process (you know who you are...), that's OK.

Accidents happen. But, be somewhat understanding if a photographer poses you

in such a way that minimizes the need for photoshop in every picture.

8. If your "friend" (aka, someone else's friend that you hung out with once at a

group event one time) is a professional photographer, don't expect to get things

for free. Free photography for good friends is one thing, free prostitution for

someone else's friend that only calls you when they want freebies is another thing entirely.

9. Have fun with it! Photography turns out a gazillion times better when YOU'RE

having fun because it probably means your photographer is having fun too. If

your photographer is having fun, your pictures will turn out beautiful.

What a gorgeous family! It was actually extremely windy when we were doing this session so we kind of had to stick by huge trees and things so that it didnt get to crazy, but overall, they turned out great! The Hoggan family was fantastic to work with, including their adorable little dog, Milo. Congrats Lance and Trina on your new addition!

So I actually did this shoot awhile back. When we shot the Jefferson Jr. High Dance Team, some of the girls wanted some action shots, which is extremely difficult to do indoors, with terrible lighting. So we did a re-shoot outside and I LOVE the way they turned out! These girls were so fun to work with. It did really make me miss dance though, so after this, I decided to take up dancing at the college again in the Spring! Wahoo!

Can I just say how much I love temple weddings! Easily at the top of my list of favorite things to photograph. Temple Square is always so beautiful and I just love the atmosphere. Not too mention the "all is good" feeling you get whenever your there.

Shane and Kylee were glowing when they came out! That is one of the best parts of being the photographer on someone's wedding day, your generally one of the first people that get to see the couple after they have said the I-do's and get to see the pure happiness before the busy day sets in.

Ok, so it's been pretty much FOREVER since I've updated this blog. So I decided today I would get all my shoots caught up so you can see my latest work and fun. Can I just say how FREEZING this shoot was? Honestly, I don't think I had ever been so numb on a shoot in my life and these girls were troopers! It was so much fun be able to shoot this dance teams pictures. It brought back so many memories of dancing high school and really made me miss it. P.S. I honestly have never seen so many incredibly talented dancers on a jr high school dance team. I was able to watch one of their dances while setting up for the studio shots, and WOW!

I was so excited to do this shoot! I've known Jenna for awhile and when she asked me to do her photography I was ecstatic! This Kami. I've known Kami for quite some time now(we grew up dancing together, good ol' Dance Showcase!) and it was really great to see her again! It's been years! Wondering why the blog has been so neglected these days? Are you longing for more sneak peeks in to the most recent shoots? I assure you, you will eventually be caught up on the most recent happenings, but for now, let me tell you what I've been plotting, planning, and keeping so busy with.

Lets' just say there are TONS in the works over here at Kristin Michelle Photography.

First off, I'm revamping all the galleries on the website. They were in desperate need of retouching, variety and updates.

Second, I have a whole new line of products coming in 2011. Including new custom designed lines of wedding, baby, holiday, and graduation announcements, new variety of albums, gallery wrap collections, fine art prints, and not to mention the all new custom dvd cover every shoot's negatives will come in.

Third, my featured story hitting stands in Januray 2011. Yes, I do love you Utah Valley Bride, with or without my beautiful clients in it. (Briana Stewart might possibly be my favorite article writer, if you havent looked her up by now, you probably should.)

Lastly, a warm, modern, fun place "might" be in the works for later next year. Yes, my very own gallery, indoor shooting place that I will call home base, in other words, a photography studio. And no, non of that come sit on a box and fake smile it stuff either. Be excited! :)

So for now, you are updated on the happenings over here, and yes, I will post my incredible clients soon, no worries.

So here comes the rush of the family shoots! October was a crazy month for family shoots. 2 or 3 a week! I had such a blast with all of the awesome families I got to meet. I will admit, being around so many babies made me a little baby hungry, so maybe number two in the near future?! I guess we'll see! But for now I really enjoy my little Bray-Bray!

This is the Hathaway family. We originally shot up provo canyon but due to crazy weather and a baby missing his nap time, we did a re-shoot up Santaquin Canyon. It's GORGEOUS up there! I actually loved it so much I'm going back on saturday for a bridal! I'm stoked!

Tip for other photographers... squeaky toys work wonders for little ones. It's like an instant smile and they look right in your direction.

I can't believe momma bear popped out ten babies! I've only had one and that was exhausting! I fully respect her. Anyways, I love the classy and vintage style they all just glow in. I'm so behind on blogging!! I have been so busy lately with shoots, and planning for the upcoming year that I have neglected my blog! So today I will update you on the recent happenings.

Meet Chelsea. She's a fellow photographer, and a great one at that. We decided a couple weeks ago to swap photos with each other so that we could have some pictures of ourselves for our websites and profiles. It was a blast. We also ventured into new terrain and found a great new spot for photos! I keep finding myself wading in freezing cold water up to my thighs for the last couple shoots. Why did I decide to use all the water areas when its starting to get cold?! Anyways, I can't wait to use it for a couple or older family! :)

Meet the Goodwin Family. I absolutely love shooting little families like this. Babies are always so fun and give the greatest facial expressions, and the parents are so engaged it's fun to watch their faces light up when their baby does something funny. Of course, it's also so entertaining to watch parents try and get their kids to smile. So little Lily here, so so cute! She was so much fun to play around with and didnt mind having a stranger in her face. Oh what a great job I have!

Ok, so this was supposed to be a pre-mission shoot. Well, without scriptures, and a lack for wanting to be completely serious, it turned in to just a fun individual shoot. Jessie was so incredibly fun and I had to hold myself back from posting some of the funny expression and awkward photos we got. Maybe I'll post them at a later time. Brody, Kaylynn, and Houston could quite possibly be the cutest family. Ever. It was way relaxed and fun working with them, and goodness, Houston is such a cutie!!

This is the 4th or 5th time I've shot up Hobble Creek Canyon and I'm loving it more and more each time I'm up there. It's definitely towards the top of the list for favorite places to do a shoot.

Price Motocross Track (Josh's Riding Day)

A good friend of mine invited us along to a track day in Price. It was a blast! I always enjoy photographing sports. Action Sports that is. I'm not a big fan of the "normal sports" such as football, basketball, etc. I just love the environment and vibe that comes from Motocross and Snowboarding to be specific. So needless to say, I enjoyed this a lot!

Salt Lake City Temple (Chad and Missy's Big Day)

Chad and Missy are married!!! I've been looking forward to this wedding for quite sometime! They are such a cute couple and I'm so happy for both of them! Salt Flats (Brenda's Bridals)

Brenda is so pretty! I must say this is turning out to be one of my favorite shoots! The salt flats are always fun to shoot at, if only it wasn't such a long drive! But, that's what you do for a good shot huh?

So awhile ago I updated my 70-300mm lens to a 70-200mm VR II. I knew this lens was good(hence I upgraded) but DANG! I'm loving it more and more. This first photo was shot with it and I can't believe the detail!!! It's so incredible! When I was doing some editing, completely zoomed up to the eye, I could see her contact, pupil detail, and my reflection(I was a good 10 feet away, mind you). I really cant praise this lens enough. Oh goodness how I love it!

Park City (Danny & Ruth)

Hurray for Park City!! I can never get enough of this place! Well, except, as usual, smelling the delicious food all over the resort makes me so hungry! I just LOVE the atmosphere.

So Danny and Ruth was a really fun shoot. I actually went to High School with both of them, and never would have imagined these two together! I guess it has been quite a few years since I've seen either one of them but they were CUTE together. Like "melt your heart" cute. I loved every minute of it! What can I say.... I have the best job! :)
